    To remove the crank bolt use paracord, wrap it around the harmonic balancer a half dozen times, then loop it down to the frame rails, then back up to the harmonic balancer. repeat this about a half dozen times, then take the stretch and slack out of the cord by gently adding pressure pressure. Keep going real gently until the bolt releases. Use a breaker bar that just fits under the (hood) bonnet ( I used a bit of old exhaust pipe). The bolt will come out as easy as pie. For me bumping the engine over did not work by using the frame nor weight of the car. Didn't want to stuff a whole lot of rope in pot number one, didn't want to remove the starter motor. Not my idea, an old timer told me this trick about 40 years ago. I had forgotten all about it unti now. Worked a treat for me. The missus is all happy with me because there was no swearing and cussing, the dog isn't trying to avoid me because of a sore backside after a good solid kick up the posterior and the neighbours are still on speaking terms with me . Even the cat hasn't gone missing. So all is good in the world. Disclaimer - this method may or may not work for you. The missus is always happy with me. The dog is a minature so if I had kicked it it would still be in orbit. The neighbours rarely talk to each other (sign of the times) and cats make good hats, not pets. LOL catch ya all later.

    Thinking about picking up a first gen xterra if I can find a good manual one. I like this era of 4x4's, and the X aged the best IMO. I like that they weren't trying anything fancy with the design on these. Its all tried-and-true stuff. Manual transfer case, locking hubs, full box frame... Some even came with 4.9 gears and an LSD.

  • @coffeeandlifting
    @coffeeandlifting 2 месяца назад

    These are tough little SUV's. I love how "old fashioned" they are. Nissan only used the most basic and proven systems on these instead of trying to get fancy... Manual transfer case instead of buttons, locking hubs instead of diff-disconnect, box frame, leaf springs, torsion bars, etc... not to mention the 3.3L is essentially a 1980's engine retrofitted with EFI.

    I had one Allen bolt stripped out. I took a bit wider than the the bolt shaft and drilled the head off.. When the intake comes off just put vice grip around the bolt to remove it. ...on the EGR bolt I decided to take off the throttle body. Of course you might end up replacing the throttle body gasket if your like me and end up breaking the gasket while cleaning the throttle mouth and butterfly. Also probably go the 10mm route on the intake bolts.

      Yep a boroscope, swivel socket, extensions, planets in alignment and 2 weeks of frustration to drop number 6 back in , some Ahole had stuffed up the thread at the very start of the hole. Inlet manifold bolts seem to be locked in with permanent loctite so that was not an option.If anyone is still tempted to do the plugs themselves DON'T. Buy the plugs and take the car to a workshop, tell them you want the old plugs back for another project. Some workshops will avoid doing number 6 because it is so hard. By insisting on getting the old plugs back you can verify the job was done properly - expect to pay a penny for the labour.Use iridium plugs to make it worth while. My center electrode was down to 1/64th of an inch on number 6. The car is heading towards 450,000 km and I have a nasty feeling number 6 had only been changed a few times. I have 40 years of wrenching experience and have done some crazy stuff , a prime example is dropping a front mounted V8 into Volkswagon beetle, please don't ask my why, young and stupid I suppose. But it was fun while it lasted. That was easier than doing number 6 spark plug on the vg33e.

    Definitely look into getting manual hub lockers, affordable and easy install. You lock them in manually for all time 4x4, instead of relying on the auto hubs that never truly spins all 4 tires at the same time. I hate the auto hubs!

    • @beardumaw24
      @beardumaw24 29 дней назад

      Auto hubs have nothing to do with locking all 4 wheels together at the same time, you need front and back locker inside the rear end diff and front diff. The xterra auto hubs lock in only the wheel their on and are very strong stronger that most manual hubs available for the xterras except for the Nissan Hard body 4x4 manural hubs they are very strong.

    • @austinhackett383
      @austinhackett383 28 дней назад

      @@beardumaw24 I think you missed the point of my comment. Auto hubs in the front are vacuum actuated, if that fails then you’re screwed on the trail. Manual hubs lock in, you don’t have to rely on vacuum. That’s why people upgrade to it. But what do I know I just work on 4x4s daily.

    • @ITS305TIME

      You have to turn all the gears to a certain point. The timing of everything in there is super important. I believe i showed the timing marks and were to put them in the video. I wouldn't be surprised if you have a bent valve though, i believe the 3.3 is a interference engine. Mite get lucky though.

    • @ITS305TIME
      @ITS305TIME 5 месяцев назад

      I cant remember, I typically will be in 4L if Im going slowly for long periods of time or if Im on a sandy trail to try and keep the transmission temperature down. Obviously if your driving up a obstacle, 4L will give you multiplied torque and better throttle control, and you wont heat up the transmission as bad by revving up the stall on your torque converter as much.
